Can you believe that Stan Lee is already 93? The CO-CREATOR (I just felt the need to put that in caps for obvious reasons) of some of our favourite comic characters seems indefatigable, though he has cut back his schedule of late.

And during a recent appearance at Tokyo Comic Con, he took the time to wax lyrical about Tom Holland, the third man in the modern era to don the Spider-Man costume:

“Tom Holland is the greatest. We are so lucky to have him. I had lunch with him back in the States a few months ago, and he was born to play Peter Parker. He’s perfect, and you’re going to say the same thing when you see him.”

Granted, Lee does tend to be effusive and somewhat hyperbolic. He’s praised Holland’s predecessors Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire at length, and has also said that Robert Downey Jr was “born” to play Iron Man.

But given what we saw of Tom Holland in Captain America: Civil War, the 20-year-old really does seem the very embodiment of an awkward, teenage Peter Parker. He’s also got a very classy cast around him, including Downey in a mentor role and Michael Keaton as The Vulture.

So here’s hoping Marvel/Sony get the villain, the plot and the high school setting right – then we’ll be in for a hell of a ride.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming Singapore release date has been tentatively set for July 6, 2017.
