He’s rather pale, shoots electricity from his fingers and likes to tell you to heed your anngggeeeerr. He’s also dead, but if Disney has it’s way, Emperor Palpatine may well be  back in the Star Wars franchise.

According to Jedi News, Scottish actor Ian McDiarmid, who played the role of Darth Vader’s mentor, will be in Star Wars Episode VII. Citing an unnamed source, it said the specifics were unclear, but that McDiarmid would likely reprise his role as Emperor Palpatine. It then copped out by stressing that this was just a rumour, and that only Lucasfilm could confirm it.

My question to Jedi News is: why didn’t you use the Force to confirm it?

But if the rumour is indeed true, then this means that the Emperor, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) will all be back in the Star Wars reboot in 2015. McDiarmid, 69, played the Sith Lord in Episodes, I, II, III and VI.
Talking to Digital Spy at Star Wars Celebration Europe recently, he expressed his excitement about the franchise’s reboot: “It’s great that Disney are going to take it forward and do it differently – things always have to change – and that George Lucas has released it to be done that way, in fact positively encouraged it.”
