It was always going to take someone, and something, special to bring the big screen version of Wonder Woman to life. And director Patty Jenkins just showed that she is stronger than Hercules in her response to an open letter slamming the movie as “a mess”.

Supposedly written by a disgruntled former Warner Bros executive, it lambasted the company’s string of not-so-well-made movies such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the still-running Suicide Squad (see our review). The letter, written under the pseudonym Gracie Law (from Big Trouble in Little Chinatown?) then added that Wonder Woman would be of the same mould:

“Maybe Wonder Woman wouldn’t be such a mess. Don’t try to hide behind the great trailer. People inside are already confirming it’s another mess. It is almost impressive how you keep rewarding the same producers and executives for making the same mistakes, over and over.”

Jenkins, who replaced Michelle MacLaren as the movie’s director, was less than pleased in her response.

All credit to Jenkins for such a strong response, but it does speak to Warners’ track record that Jenkins felt the need to come out and denounce the letter so forcefully. I personally think the trailer looks great and want the movie to be equally so, but I do feel pretty nervous about its prospects, given how its predecessors have done.

Good luck, Patty Jenkins and co. You’re going to need it.

  • Without Nolan, DC sucks. I am not betting my $ on this being a hit. I do like Gal Gadot though. 🙂
