Universal has released the first The Snowman trailer and it’s pretty chilling stuff! You can witness the wintry nightmare below.

The film is based on the seventh entry of the popular ten-book series of detective novels by Norweigian scribe Jo Nesbø. It follows elite crime squad detective Harry Hole (pronounced Hoo-leh), played by Michael Fassbender, who investigates the grisly murder of a woman who is found beheaded on the first snow of winter, her pink scarf wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.

He fears it may be the work of the elusive serial killer who calls himself the Snowman Killer. With the help of a brilliant new recruit Katrine Bratt (Rebecca Ferguson), Harry must connect the clues from decades-old cold cases to the new ones in a bid to outwit the killer before he strikes again.

The Snowman is directed by Tomas Alfredson, the director of the seminal vampire drama Let the Right One In, and also stars James D’Arcy, Chloe Sevigny, Val Kilmer, J. K. Simmons and Toby Jones.

We can expect the vibes of Scandi thrillers such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Killing like cold haunting landscapes and a slowburn pace. And because Alfredson is at the helm, I wouldn’t rule out some spine-tingling horror elements as well.

The bonus for Fassy fans? Plenty of sequences where he handsomely anguishes at many little snowmen. Huzzah!

The Snowman opens in Singapore on October 19 in Singapore. Are you ready to get snowed in with Michael Fassbender and Rebecca Ferguson?
