The Odinsons are back! Marvel Studios just dropped the first teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, the much-anticipated return of our favourite thundery blonde muscle.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilisation—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!

Asgard burnt to ashes? Mjolnir crushed by Cate Blanchett’s Hela?? Thor and Hulk turned into intergalactic gladiators and made to fight each other??? So much going on, bruh!

If you think the tone of the film is familiar, it seems the filmmakers have taken a leaf out of the Guardians of the Galaxy handbook, right down to the ‘80s-inspired typography of the title and the awesome use of Led Zeppelin’s rock anthem Immigrant Song in the soundtrack.

And one of the many things that are making us squee? Thor’s armour especially that helmet which is designed to look like the one he wears in the comic books!

But let’s not forget that Marvel took on Kiwi auteur Taika Waititi as director, who is known for his irreverent humour and whimsical sensibilities. So what we’re seeing so far is also Waititi’s signature aesthetics.

Although, I must say I do miss the Shakespearean dynasty drama that is the first Thor movie. Thank you, Kenneth Branagh!

Thor: Ragnarok sees the return of Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Idris Elba as Heimdall, among others. It also stars Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge and Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster. And as we all know, a big green guy and a strange doctor will guest star!

Thor: Ragnarok opens in Singapore on November 3. What do you think, geeks? Is Ragnarok rocking your socks?
