Fans of Game of Thrones have seen Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) dragons grow for six seasons, going from chicken-sized babies to dangerously massive beasts that can take down entire sailing ships with just a couple of fiery breaths. But it looks like the carnage has only just begun.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Season 7 director Matt Shankman says that Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal are bigger and more terrifying than we’ve ever seen them.
“The dragons this year are the size of 747s…Drogon is the biggest of the bunch — his flame is 30-feet in diameter!”
A Boeing 747 is about 230 feet long and has a wingspan of about 210 feet. That works out to a 70m long dragon with a wingspan of 64m and a flame 9m wide! #metricsystemftw
With such enormous beasts, it’s not hard to imagine how Daenerys plans to claim the throne to Westeros. But I can’t help but wonder how those flames would stand up against an army of White Walkers. Remember, the GOT7 teaser image shows what looks like a thick sheet of ice with fire licking away at the bottom.
Regardless, I think it’s safe to say that we can see plenty of dragons and things going up in flames with the return of Game of Thrones.
