Following our previous report that Marvel has big plans in store for Agent Carter, the love interest of Steve Rogers in Captain America (2011), it appears that she may be about to get her own TV series.
Deadline reports that Marvel is working on a potential ABC TV series starring Agent Carter, who was played by British actress Hayley Atwell. It’s apparently in the very early stages, and a writer is still being locked down. As it is, Peggy Carter is already getting her own short film entitled – duh – Agent Carter, which will feature on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray DVD. Directed by Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, it chronicles her life as a secret agent after Cap goes missing, presumed dead.
It’s worth remembering that another short, Item 47 o, which featured on The Avengers (2012) DVD, eventually led to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The series premieres next Tuesday, the same day that the Iron Man 3 DVD is released. Deadline adds that it’s unclear if Atwell will reprise her role, but a TV series with a strong, nuanced, ass-kicking female lead would be most welcome. It’s been a while since Buffy and Alias, and an Agent Carter TV series would be even better if they set it in the Cold War.
In the meantime, check out this clip from Agent Carter, where she discovers some secret thingie and gets confronted by a monstrous looking dude.
What do you think of an Agent Carter TV series? Would you watch it?
