It was one of the best movies of 2014, and a wonderful addition to the sci-fi canon. And yet, Edge of Tomorrow (see our review) somehow under-performed at the American box office, garnering a mere US$100 million.
But fear not: The movie still made more than US$270 million worldwide, so there is a sequel coming. Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse are on board as screenwriter, with Doug Liman returning to direct as well.
So there’s just the small matter of whether main leads Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt will return. Cruise, who was last seen in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (see our review), is currently filming The Mummy reboot in England and is also working on yet another MI movie.
Blunt can currently be seen in The Huntsman: Winter’s War (check out our account of the Singapore red carpet event from last week) and is also up for a Sicario sequel. She comprehensively outshone Cruise in EoT (Tom seems to be making a habit of letting his leading women steal the show), so let’s the hope the stars align for both of them to return.
