While the new Captain Marvel won’t feature in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, we will get to see her in action with our favourite superhero team some time in the near future.
Scarlett Johansson a.k.a. Black Widow told Vanity Fair that Brie Larson would get her “feet wet” as Carol Danvers in Avengers 4 before production starts on the Captain Marvel movie:
“…a really cute thing happened the other day where Hulk is standing next to her and [Avengers 4 co-director] Joe Russo told her to put her hand in front of Mark [Ruffalo]’s face to stop him, and she’s like, ‘In front of his face?’ And they explained, ‘that’s where his chest is,’ and she looks up and yells, ‘I’m new! I’m new!'”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger have also been quoted as saying that Avengers 4 will mark the end of an era, so it seems fitting to introduce a newer generation of characters like Captain Marvel who might lead the charge in the next phase of Marvel movies.
Johansson, who has played Black Widow since 2010’s Iron Man 2 also spoke about how this shift is a “bittersweet” one:
“It’s very surreal for me to watch these new cast members come in and get their feet wet and breath new life into these characters who are so iconic. I feel a lot of joy for the next generation. It’s a bittersweet feeling but overall it’s a positive one. I feel good about the work we’ve done and the work I’ve done.”
