We knew that day was coming soon, but knowing it doesn’t make it any better. Despite saying that he would be open to more movies if Marvel wanted him, it looks like Chris Evans is going to hang up the vibranium shield for good in the near future.
Speaking to Esquire for a profile piece, Evans revealed that he had “two Captain America films” that were shooting back-to-back from April onwards, after which his Marvel contract would be done.
It seems that Marvel did initially offer Evans a nine-picture deal, but he opted for one that spanned six pictures instead. I can’t say I blame him. MCU movies take months to film, and if you factor in the time actors like Evans need to get in shape, plus the endless movie promotion in the weeks leading up to release in cinemas, that’s pretty much the better part of a year devoted to one movie.
With fans having bid farewell to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Logan (see our review), it’s only a matter of time before we have to bid farewell to some of the Avengers too. But you can comfort yourself with memories of the time Evans and co came to Singapore.
