Woohoo! After the confirmation of a release date for the Deadpool movie and some jaw-dropping test footage, Deadline is now reporting that Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his role as the merc with the mouth!
The X-Men spin-off has been in development for a looooong time, but fans of the fast-talking, ultraviolent Wade Wilson can finally rest easy.
Reynolds previously portrayed Deadpool very briefly in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). But when the character reappeared in the climactic fight against Wolverine, he was scarred beyond recognition – and also played by another actor.
Tim Miller, whose resume is full of some great visual effects work, will direct, with a script written by Rhett Reese (Zombieland). The movie will also be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner, who has been involved with the X-Men movie franchise from the very beginning.
However, it’s unsure what the backstory for the character will be like, since this year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past effectively changed the course of events depicted in the X-Men Origins movie.
Reynolds himself had a few words to say about the news.

Let’s hope he has a better script to work with this time. It might even help us forget about the fiasco that was Green Lantern (2011).
Deadpool will be released February 12, 2016.
