Has it been almost a whole month since that awesome Doctor Strange trailer debuted at Comic Con? In the meantime, Benedict Cumberbatch a.k.a. the Internet’s boyfriend has shared his thoughts on just what makes Doctor Strange a superhero.
The Cumbs rather has made a career out of playing men with extraordinary abilities, whether in Hawking, Sherlock, The Imitation Game and now, Doctor Strange. In case you needed reminding, Stephen Strange is a brilliant, arrogant neurosurgeon whose medical career is ended by a horrible accident.
Strange then comes under the wing of The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who trains him in the mystical arts. But despite gaining the Cloak of Levitation and the powerful Eye of Agamotto (it’s a long story), Cumberbatch says it’s something far more intrinsic that makes Strange special:
“This man reaches the very bottom and then more. You think, How much more can this guy take? He’s broken, he gets up again, he’s broken — and that’s really what makes him a superhero. A lot of people have asked me, ‘What makes him a superhero?’ That’s really the answer I should have given. It’s not the Cloak of Levitation. It’s not the Eye of Agamotto. It’s about his staying power. It’s a marathon and not a sprint. The guy endures so much.”
The Doctor Strange Singapore release date has been set for October 27.
