The Deadpool movie is on, and Ryan Reynolds, the man who would be Wade Wilson (again), is a happy camper. Reynolds has proclaimed the long-gestating project “the movie we want to make”.
“It’s been a long time, but it’s happened in the right way and that’s all that matters. We don’t have the kind of money that most superhero movies do, but that’s great. Necessity is the mother of invention. That’s why we get to make the movie we want to make.”
Helmed by first-time feature director Tim Miller, Deadpool is still a good year away. But there’s been plenty of buzz around the project, especially after test footage prepared by Miller leaked on the Internets last year.
A lot of it had to do with the tone of the clip: acerbic, darkly funny and whacky. In other words, vintage Deadpool.
MTV News cheekily asked if Reynolds had leaked the footage, which the husband of Blake Lively (and ex of Scarlett Johanssen. WHY?) quickly denied:
“I would have FOX’s lawyers so far up my ass they could smell Wade Wilson’s feet,” Reynolds joked. “No, no, no I didn’t leak it. But I would have. Looking back now, in a heartbeat. I should go home and scan the old hard drive and see what I’ve got in there.”
But while Reynolds is the fan favourite to play Deadpool, he did, well, flop with Green Lantern (2011). So is he feeling the pressure to deliver?
“No, no, no, of course not. You gotta have faith in the people you’re working with, and have faith in the prep, and that’s all I’m doing. On this one, the prep’s been 11 years. You’d like to think you’re putting your best foot forward, but we’ll see.”
