Our epic geek trip to the USA may have been three months ago, but the memories are still fresh in our heads. We’ve told you about our first Airbnb sojourn in San Francisco –  now it’s time time to tell you about our second Airbnb stop, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

We were in ABQ to check out the Breaking Bad shooting locations, and I must say that this was our best Airbnb experience so far. First of all, our hosts James and Lori were very gracious, friendly and knowledgeable. (plus Lori complimented my Community tee, so I know she has great taste)

Secondly, they have a GORGEOUS house which is more than a century old, and we got to stay in a very spacious room with en-suite bathroom. I think the pictures can speak for themselves.

Thirdly, they have some lovely, lovely pets. Their dog Freya is the most loving, intelligent dog I’ve ever encountered. She’s always eager for your company, and likes to play with her ‘trombone’ – a bone toy that lets off a sort of musical note when she bites on it. Though she does have a disturbing habit of butting her head into your crotch or butt – but I suspect that’s simply because of her height.

Their cat Buster has gorgeous black fur and is (marginally) more friendly than your average cat. And he tends to ignore Freya, even though she wants to be friends. As Lori wryly put it: “Freya wants Buster to love her – but it’s not gonna happen.”

Last of all, Albuquerque is a wonderful place to visit. It’s in the desert, so the air is dry and the weather always sunny and the skies always blue. People are generally very friendly and polite, and there is lots to see, starting from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science and the Petroglyph National Monument, which contains centuries-old rock art. There are also lots of beautiful murals all over the city.

Check in with us again on our next Airbnb post, as we tell you about the city of Asheville, North Carolina. If you’d like to find out more about Airbnb, click here
