Honestly, can anyone think of a cooler person to play Starlord’s dad? I sure can’t.
News has broken today that Kurt Russell, he of Wyatt Earp, Jack O’Neil and Snake Plissken fame, is in initial talks to play the father (figure?) of one Peter Quill a.k.a Starlord (Chris Pratt) in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. It’s unknown if the character will turn out to be a major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In the comics, Starlord’s father is Emperor Jason of the imperial throneworld Sparta, which mean he’s heir to an intergalactic empire. It would be pretty damn cool if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 stayed true to this.
Russell has Quentin Tarantino and the FF franchise to thank for his recent career resurgence, with major roles in The Hateful Eight and Furious 7. He’ll also be in upcoming disaster movie Deepwater Horizon.
The stepfather of Kate Hudson is known for playing alpha male, tough-as-steel characters, and the movie would certainly benefit from his particular brand of manliness. I can already imagine the scenes between Russell and Pratt where they try and out-macho each other with one-liners.
Guardians of the Galaxy was loads of fun (see our review), and we expect Vol 2 to be twice as fun. Quick, James Gunn, do your thing!
