While DC continues to struggle with integrating its Extended Universe – see our Suicide Squad review and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins’s denouncement of an open letter – the Marvel machine just keeps on chugging along.
There are apparent benefits to planning an extended universe years in advance (shock horror!), as opposed to unleashing a load of characters with decades of backstory all at once in one movie. Which is why Marvel can do things like include the Guardians of the Galaxy in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
Action star Vin Diesel (the voice of Groot), broke the news in a 30-minute long Facebook live video on his personal page that was ostensibly meant to show off an award from Facebook for having more than 100 million fans
“Now, the Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War and that’s incredibly exciting. You were told before everybody.”
We already know that the big bad of Infinity War will be Thanos of Titan (Josh Brolin), while the IW storyline from the comics all takes place in outer space. So it does make a lot of sense for the Guardians to be involved.
And given that Marvel has already pulled off the delicate balancing act of having 16 major characters in Civil War, you can understand why they’d be bullish about their prospects. Now, we just need the long-awaited showdown between Thor, Star-Lord and Cap – the three Chrises!
Avengers: Infinity War opens in May 2018. Are you excited about the Guardians of he Galaxy being in the movie? Tell us!
