J.K. Simmons, the former J. Jonah Jameson in three Spider-Man movies, is currently in talks to join the cast of Terminator: Genisys.
Simmons is up for the role of a hard drinking, world-weary detective obsessed with the bizarre case of Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), the strange woman with tales of time travel and killer robots, across three decades.
Along with Clarke as the central figure Sarah Connor, she’ll be joined by time-travelling soldier Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney). If you’ve watched the original Terminator (1984), you’ll know that Keese is a soldier from the future sent to protect Connor from killer cyborgs. Connor’s role is crucial, as she’s the mother of John Connor (Jason Clarke), the man who’ll play a key role in the right against the rise of the machines.
The central tale remains largely the same, with elements from the first two Terminator movies, though it’s unclear if any source material from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008-09) will be used. The Governator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, will also be back as some version of the Terminator. Which means the cast for both the movie and TV reboot are coming together nicely for director Alan Taylor.
Filming on Terminator: Genesis is expected to kick off soon, in order for the film to make its June 26, 2015 release date.
