It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for Thanos to show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sure, we’ve had his little cameos in Avengers: Age of Ultron (see our review), and he also had an extended cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy (see our review).
But he’s the big bad – a man who’s almost destroyed the Marvel Universe many times over, successfully amassed the Infinity Gems and literally lusts for Death. We need more than 30 seconds of Thanos here and there. And it’s coming to us in Avengers: Infinity War Parts I and II, when Thanos will (likely) take on the entire MCU.
But we still have to wait till 2018 and 2019 for those movies. Damn it.
Josh Brolin – who’s been kind of underwhelming as Thanos so far – is the man tasked with bringing the Eternal to life. Expectations are high, especially considering that every single Marvel movie so far has basically been building up to Thanos taking centre stage.
This is what Brolin had to say about playing the role.
“It’s not voice work, it’s mo-cap. I’m there. I’m there and I’m not in a booth. I’m being filmed. I have a bunch of crap on my face. [laughs] I’m being filmed by like thirty-four cameras? Thirty-six cameras? Something like that. Every movement, everything. So, it’s very new to me, it’s very exciting, it’s very unnerving. But I sure trust these guys! You know? We’re supposed to get together very soon to talk about the trajectory of Thanos in the next few years and it’s very exciting. It’s one of the better decisions I think I’ve made.”
