We’re about a month away from the nationwide release (March 16) of Disney’s live action remake of Beauty and the Beast and the House of Mouse has dropped the first single from the movie soundtrack: A contemporary update of the beloved Beauty and the Beast ballad.

Originally sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson 26 years ago, the duet has been given a fresh coat of paint by two award-winning artistes, Ariana Grande and John Legend. Have a listen below:

It’s been reported that Grande and Legend will be shooting a music video for this which is slated to be out some time at the end of February.

Personally, I like the quality of Grande and Legend’s vocals but I find this rendition a tad underwhelming. It’s not a huge departure from the original but I suppose they’re trying to honour the Dion/ Bryson duet and, at the same time, get millennials on board by revamping it with the famous voices of their generation. It must be said that Grande has nothing on Dion’s powerhouse vocals!

The movie soundtrack will feature the original songs from the 1991 animated film, which were composed and written by the dynamic duo Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The film’s cast – which includes Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Ian McKellen, Ewan McGregor and more – provided the vocals.

Josh Groban will also be contributing a track and a brand new song has been composed for Celine Dion to perform as well.

Here’s the latest trailer for Beauty and the Beast, which features the new duet for a bit.

How do you like the revamped ballad? Do you think Ariana Grande and John Legend have done it justice?
