Attention, geeks: Arya Stark is bringing her brand of awesome not just across the Narrow Sea, but to all of space and time! WOOT!

Yes, you read that right: Winterfell is coming to the Tardis!

According to the BBC website, Maisie Williams, who plays perennial fan favourite Arya Stark in Game of Thrones, will soon have a guest spot in an upcoming episode of Doctor Who season 9.

Having just returned to the UK after doing promotion for Season 5 of Game of Thrones, Williams reportedly went straight to the Doctor Who set to film her guest role.

And she didn’t go onto just any Who set, mind you: Her character will actually step foot in the TARDIS.

We here at Geek Crusade love it when our favourite stars get cast in multiple franchises (see also: Benedict Cumberbatch cast as Doctor Strange), and the BBC has just given us what must be one of the most exciting pieces of casting news this year.

On her part, Williams sounds really enthusiastic to be part of such an important TV institution:

“I’m so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British Culture. I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time that the cast members of Game of Thrones have crossed over to Doctor Who or vice versa.

Mark Gatiss, a.k.a. Sherlock‘s Mycroft Holmes and a Doctor Who writer, will reprise his role as Tycho Nestorisin the upcoming season of GoT.

No details on what Williams’s character will be like yet, or how many episodes she’ll feature in, but showrunner Steven Moffat had this to say:

“We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.”

Please, please let that sort of hell be Williams and Jenna Coleman running around the TARDIS causing all sorts of shenanigans. And if her guest role ends up becoming expanded into a multi-episode arc, even better!

Doctor Who is currently filming their ninth season, slated for release sometime later this year, while Game of Thrones Season 5 premieres on April 12.

And if you’re looking for somewhere to fangirl/fanboy gleefully about Arya in the Tardis, why not join us for our Game of Thrones-inspired dinner on April 23, Requiem for the Red Viper?
