Michael Fassbender may have wormed his way into our geeky little hearts by appearing in a slew of geek movies like Prometheus, the X-Men: First Class trilogy, and more recently as Callum Lynch in Assassin’s Creed.
But if things had been a little different, he could’ve joined the granddaddy of all geek franchises.
While doing promo for Assassin’s Creed, Fassbender revealed on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had been in talks to play a key character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (see our review)
“We talked about a role…We had a conversation. I’m pretty sure I was busy doing something else in the summer he was kickstarting that.”
Now, this isn’t really a new revelation per se. Just like so many other actors, Fassbender’s name had been thrown around while they were casting for TFA. Fassy didn’t reveal what role he was up for, but considering the fact that he’s at his best playing conflicted characters, I think it’s highly likely that he was up for either the role of Kylo Ren or General Hux.
That said, I’m kind of glad he wasn’t cast in TFA, if only because I’m still holding out hope that his X-Men contract with Fox gets renewed, and a Star Wars contract would undoubtedly complicate things.
