Face it, we all loved Game of Thrones’ Oberyn Martell. Yes, he channelled a bit too much of his inner Inigo Montoya for his own good, and obviously didn’t use the reach of his spear to good effect.
Still, we loved him until his head exploded, and then some. We’re even holding a memorial dinner in his honour. So it’s reasonably safe to assume we’d like his bastard daughters too, or at least one of them.
Entertainment Weekly has given us a first look at the Sand Snakes, Oberyn’s daughters from Dorne, who will be looking to address that little headache from last season, and I think I have a new fav badass character played by an actress of Asian-descent (sorry Chloe Bennet/Skye, you were so literally yesterday’s news).
Keisha Castle-Hughes is looking pretty daddy-like with the spear as Obara Sand, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers has one of my favourite melee weapon archtypes with the dual dagger-wielding Tyene Sand, but of course the one that caught my attention was Jessica Henwick’s whipping Nymeria Sand.
Leaving all 50 Shades of Grey references by the dumpster where they belong, Henwick’s Lady Nym certainly looks like she’s got some serious questions she wants answered. She also gets bonus points for having the same name as Arya Stark’s direwolf.

That being said, we’d all do well to remember George R. R. Martin’s
threat remark that characters who survive in the books may not survive on TV. Given how much soul-crushing has been delivered despite knowing in advance certain characters were gonna die, I’m mentally reminding myself not to get too attached.
Oh, Henwick has a Singaporean Chinese mom, too. Go Team Singapore! We need more than just the typical CEO/high-level official/money launderer who eventually gets killed (sorry Chin Han, I know and appreciate that you’ve been trying).
In other news…
What happened to Arya?!
Game of Thrones returns on April 12, and will air simultaneously worldwide every week. And if you’re interested in the Red Viper’s memorial dinner, it happens on April 25.
