It’s been literally 20 years since Nicole Kidman appeared in a superhero movie (1995’s Batman Forever). In that time, she’s divorced Tom Cruise, won as Oscar and had four kids. Now, it seems she’s ready to play an Amazon.
It’s being reported that Kidman is in negotiations to play a “high-ranking Amazonian warrior” alongside Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, in the superheroine’s solo movie. Presumably this would be Queen Hippolyta, mother of Diana of Themyscira – Wonder Woman herself.
Which would be quite a step up from Dr Chase Meridian, the Val Kilmer Batman’s love interest, and a character Kidman herself once described as a “criminal psychologist dressed as Jessica Rabbit”.
If it comes to pass, Kidman’s casting would be a nice little bit of wink-wink-nudge-nudge, somewhat similar to John Wesley Shipp playing The Flash’s dad, or the former Superman/Supergirl popping up on Supergirl. And she’s certainly got the gravitas and royal stature to play a Queen – in fact, Kidman has even played Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco
The Amazonian princess will make her debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, before the Wonder Woman movie comes out on June 23, 2017. It will also star Chris Pine a.k.a. Captain Kirk a.k.a. Jack Ryan, which will make for quite a bit of cross-genre casting.
