Fresh off co-director Joe Russo’s warning to expect ‘intense surprises’ in Avengers: Infinity War, the Russo brothers have now confirmed that Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel will not be appearing in the movie.
Speaking to ComicBook.com at a press event at the recently concluded Comic Con, Joe Russo was emphatic: “She’s not in Avengers 3.” This doesn’t rule out a cameo in the obligatory post-credits scene, of course, but it looks like Brie Larson will have to wait till her solo movie comes out in March 2019 to make her full debut in the MCU.
The bar has already been significantly raised for her by Wonder Woman (see our review), which has even gotten fulsome praise from Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. The movie itself will be set before the events of the first Iron Man movie and features the return of one Samuel L. Jackson a.k.a. Nick Fury.
As it stands, Infinity War already stars (deep breath) Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and many more. Johansson has even teased an Infinity War scene with more than 30 characters.
Before Captain Marvel, we will have Thor: Ragnarok (opening in Singapore November 2), Black Panther and Ant-Man and The Wasp to look forward to. Could Captain Marvel possibly make a cameo in any one of these movies? Hmmmmm.
Avengers: Infinity War opens in Singapore on April 26, 2018.
