Given its awesome lead, the critical and popular acclaim it received and the intense intensity of its story line, it was inevitable. But it still feels pretty damn good to have it made official: There will be a Jessica Jones season 2.
Netflix confirmed another 13-episode run during the Television Critics Association’s press tour sessions on Sunday. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg is also back on board. No further details on cast or premiere date were available, though Krysten Ritter is presumably – duhh – still the lead, given the brilliant job she did in season 1.
If you still haven’t caught Jessica Jones, then you really, really ought to. The superpowered element notwithstanding, it’s really a fable about abusers and the abused that goes to some very dark places indeed. But season 2 is going to have a hard time finding another villain as compelling and memorable as Kilgrave, who was brilliantly brought to life by David Tennant.
Plus, I’m hoping they don’t bring back Simpson (Wil Traval), because his character is, well, kind of pointless. He just feels like a watered-down version of his comics counterpart, and I still can’t figure out what his purpose is.
On a side note, if you like the dark and intense stuff, you really ought to check out Daredevil as well (if you haven’t watched it yet, then what on earth have you been doing with your life?), whose second season debuts on March 18 on Netflix.
Oh, and can we have a Daredevil cameo in Jessica Jones, pretty please? They’ve already featured the Night Nurse – surely they can have Matt too??
