Listen. Can you hear it? Godzilla is coming.
Three months ahead of the movie’s release in May, Legendary Pictures has dropped the main trailer for the Godzilla movie. As befits the giant monster, it all looks big and destructive and explode-y. But there’s a strong cast at hand, led by Bryan Cranston’s scientist character Joe Brody, so let’s hope it doesn’t take the Michael Bay “Screw the story, let’s blow shit up” approach.
There’s hints of military involvement (of course) and government cover ups (but of course) in the creature born of the atomic age. As Brody puts it, there are terrifying times ahead: “You’re lying. It was not an earthquake. It wasn’t a typhoon. Because what’s really happen is that you’re hiding something out there, and it is gonna send us back to the Stone Age.”
There’s an interesting blend of fact and fiction as well, as Daisuke Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) reveals that the real-life nuclear tests of the 1950s were actually an attempt to kill the monster. And as he so eloquently puts it: “The arrogance of man is thinking nature is in our control, and not the other way round.”
Then it all ends with THAT roar.
Godzilla will be released in Singapore on May 15. In the meantime, check out what we saw at The Godzilla Encounter in Comic Con, when we came face to face with the monster.
