Well, after much speculation, it seems like Marvel and Sony have found someone to take over the mantle of Spider-Man from Andrew Garfield.
British actor Tom Holland is set to become the new teenage webslinger, with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and Sony/Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal both impressed by his performances in The Impossible and Wolf Hall.
The studios also announced that the standalone Spider-Man film will be released on July 28, 2017, and has Cop Car director Jon Watts at its helm.
Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Pascal.
Interestingly, the announcement makes no reference to Spidey’s rumoured first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance, which is widely believed to be in Captain America 3: Civil War.
Holland had earlier posted some videos of him doing backflips to his Instagram account, and from the looks of it, Spidey’s acrobatics seem to be in good hands.
