The global box office receipts are in, and there’s only one movie to rule them all – Captain America: Civil War, which crossed the magical 1 billion dollar mark with a total worldwide gross of US$1.15 billion.

Unsurprisingly, there are many comic book adaptations on The Hollywood Reporter’s list of the top 20 grossing films of 2016. Despite awful reviews, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finished at No. 6 with US$873.3 million, while Deadpool was at No. 8 with US$783.1 million.

Meanwhile, Suicide SquadDoctor Strange and  X-Men: Apocalypse finished up at at No. 10 11 and 13 respectively.

But that’s not the end of the story for Marvel’s parent company Disney. THR says that Disney finished the year with a whopping US$3 billion at the North American box office, claiming more than 26 per cent of the domestic market share. Its strongest performers included Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Zootopia and The Jungle Book.

In conclusion: Ker-ching!
