Testing for the lead role in the Supergirl TV series has started, and among the early candidates: Claire Holt, best known for her roles in The Vampire Diaries (2009 – ?) and The Originals (2013 – ?).

The 26-year-old Holt will also star opposite David Duchovny in next year’s Aquarius. Vampire Diaries has been her most high-profile role to date, so getting cast as Supergirl would certainly be a step up for the Australian.

According to early reports, the Supergirl TV series will center on Kara Zor-El, who escaped the destruction of Krypton at age 12 by fleeing to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers family.

After years of hiding her powers, she decides at age 24 to embrace her superhuman abilities – and live up to the heritage of her famous cousin.

Casting notices also indicate that the characters will include new versions of Superman stalwarts Jimmy Olsen and Cat Grant, as well as Kara’s foster sister Alexandra “Alex” Danvers and the young genius Winslow Schott a.k.a.Toyman.

Showrunner Greg Berlanti has also teased that Supergirl may share the same universe as Arrow and The FlashIn the meantime, get ready for the Arrow-Flash crossover, when Barry and Oliver go man to man!
