The Daredevil TV show is really shaping up to be something exciting. After Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Vincent D’Onofrio (The Kingpin) and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) comes another very exciting addition to the cast: veteran character actor Scott Glenn as Murdock’s mentor Stick.
You’ll probably know Glenn as THAT guy from movies like Training Day (2001), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and The Hunt for Red October (1990). He’s been around a long time, and often brings a slow burning charisma to his characters.
Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb had this to say too:
“Stick is one of the most important figures in Matt Murdock’s life and Scott Glenn embodies all the qualities of someone so integral to this hero’s journey. There are few actors who could bring such the authenticity, gravitas and charisma to such a key role in Matt’s journey to become the super hero we call Daredevil.”
For the uninformed – Stick is the mysterious blind sensei who shows up after the accident that blinds Matt Murdock, and then trains him in the martial arts. He was created by Frank Miller, which further reinforces that the Daredevil TV show will draw heavily on Miller’s run on the comic in the 1980s. It also suggests that the show will have at least some mystical elements:
Stick was also previously played by Terence Stamp in the very lamentable (shudder) Elektra (2005). There’ve been several interpretations, but here’s what Stick looks like:
