The Wonder Woman sequel may well be following in the footsteps of X-Men: Apocalypse by setting the action in the 1980s. What’s more, Diana’s paramour Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) will also return.

ScreenRant is reporting that the sequel will see Diana (Gal Gadot) taking on the Soviet Union in the final days of the Cold War. DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns is reportedly developing the script with director Patty Jenkins, who is expected to direct the sequel as well.

Chris Pine’s Trevor, who died in the first movie, will reportedly return in a flashback or perhaps as the original Trevor’s distant relative. (Like Peggy and Sharon Carter then?)

Wonder Woman (see our review) has already become the highest grossing DC Extended Universe movie, making a grand total of about US$746 million worldwide.
