Just over a month before the movie opens in Singapore on Jan 22, we’ve been treated to a second American Sniper trailer. After the tension and agonising dilemma of the first trailer, this trailer comes as a little bit more straightforward.
Interspersed with words of praise from reviewers, we get more of a glimpse into the titular sniper Chris Kyle’s (Bradley Cooper) internal thoughts via the therapist’s couch. Age-old themes of bravery, sacrifice and post-traumatic stress disorder come to the fore.
Given director Clint Eastwood’s previous examinations of war in Flags of Our Fathers (2006) and Letters From Iwo Jima (2006), we can expect a thoughtful examination of the price of the war in Iraq, and the trailer certainly looks that way.
It all ends with a tearful cry from Kyle: “I’m ready. I’m ready to come home.”
