We’ve had the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer – now we have names for the characters featured in those precious 88 seconds!
And director JJ Abrams unveiled them in the cutest, most retro way possible: a series of mock vintage trading cards published in Entertainment Weekly.
The rolling ball droid has a name! A cousin of R2-D2, perhaps?
It’s the X-wing pilot played by Oscar Isaac! Should we read anything into the fact that his first name is that of a writer known for his dark, dark portrayals of human nature? Don’t worry, the rest of the Internet will do it for us.
Kylo Ren! (It’s kind of hard not to use exclamation marks!)
The Sith Lord with the claymore light saber has a name! Though we don’t yet know who the actor/actress playing him/her is.
Only a first name for this character played by Daisy Ridley. So what’s her surname then? Skywalker? Solo? Fett? Calrissian??
Now, this is the most interesting one. It’s not often we see a Stormtrooper with his helmet off, let alone have a name (in the movies, at least).
Though it’s still not clear if John Boyega’s character is really a Stormtrooper, or one of the good guys in disguise (think A New Hope).
And the rest of the trailer!
Disney also released mock trading cards based on (literally) every other significant moment in the teaser:
And that’s that. JJ Abrams seems to have been taking lessons from Bryan Singer on the viral marketing front, so get ready for many more Star Wars teasers to come.
In the meantime, check out the rest of our Episode VII coverage.
