The truth is still out there and you can bet your alien arcs that FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are on the case. At the New York Comic-Con over the weekend (October 8-9), a new trailer for the series’s 11th season was unveiled during the Fox panel and the crowd went wild!
Watch the X-Files trailer that sent the fandom into a frenzy:
They’ve only filmed five of the ten new episodes so the footage we’re watching is from just half the season, but it’s already packed with so much action.
But we know for certain that the main cast – David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi (as their long-suffering boss Walter Skinner) and William B. Davis (the ever-haunting Cigarette Smoking Man) – are back to reprise their iconic roles.
The slew of shots of aliens and spacecraft with Cigarette Smoking Man once again uttering foreboding prophecies that “civilisation is in its final stage” suggests that the series will expand further on its sprawling alien arc. Also highlighted in the trailer is Mulder and Scully’s search for their son, William, who was given up for adoption years ago for his own safety.
During the panel, series creator Chris Carter promised that the latest season will explore the father-mother-son relationship and that Mulder and Scully, whose relationship didn’t seem as romantic last season, will be “kissing close” this time. Prepare your hearts, ‘shippers!
Carter was also asked if the season would end with a cliffhanger like most of the previous seasons. “There’s a lot of life left in this show,” he said in response. Later he would say the same about his other television series, the shortlived Millennium.
We should also add that Anderson was quoted by Screen Rant as saying that this would be her last outing as Agent Scully. And every X-Phile knows that there isn’t The X-Files without either Mulder or Scully.
The X-Files Season 11 will premiere in the US in 2018. Any X-Philes in the house? Are you psyched about the X-Files trailer?
