Wondering what Hugh Jackman is up to after Logan? There’s a musical film based on the life and times of 19th century American showman and businessman P. T. Barnum and it stars Wolverine Hugh Jackman in the lead role.

Called The Greatest Showman, it tells the story of the real-life P. T. Barnum, a businessman from modest beginnings who had a flair for promotion. He went into the entertainment industry by assembling a troupe of performers with peculiarities and established himself as a funhouse showman.

In this biopic, Barnum is depicted as a visionary who rises from nothing to set up a popular circus act. This would be the world famous Barnum and Bailey Circus which was known as “The Greatest Show on Earth” in the late 1800s. 20th Century Fox has just dropped the first The Greatest Showman trailer and it’s stunning!

There are echoes of Moulin Rouge with its contemporary soundtrack set against a period backdrop. The visuals are appropriately lush for what we expect to be a spectacle about a spectacle!

What I love about this is seeing Jackman and Zac Efron return to their musical roots. Aside from playing our beloved Canucklehead in the X-Men series of movies, Jackman is a force in the musical theatre scene, having performed in several stage productions like Oklahoma and Beauty and the Beast. He even snagged a Tony award for his performance as singer-songwriter Peter Allen in the hit musical The Boy from Oz. And, of course, who can forget his Golden Globe-winning turn as Jean Valjean in the 2012 adaptation of the Les Misérables musical.

Efron, as we know, was propelled to fame by the High School Musical series of TV movies. He was also in the 2007 Hairspray remake.

The lads look like they’re having fun! But don’t let them distract you from the strong female cast. The movie also stars Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and so-hot-right-now Zendaya who will soon be seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The Greatest Showman opens in Singapore on December 28. How about it, geeks? Wanna see Wolvie do a dance number or two?
