Hollywood megastar Jennifer Lawrence returns to indie horror with the latest film from renowned director, Darren Aronofsky. Yes, this is THE film where they met and fell in love on set and they’re currently an item (they even came to Singapore last year).
mother! is a psychological thriller in which a couple’s relationship – played by Lawrence and Javier Bardem – is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. The movie also stars Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer as two of the aforementioned guests.
This is as far as we know but to find out more, check out the gripping first mother! trailer below:
Intense, right? One wonders if JLaw’s fears are real or if she’s just losing her mind, with echoes of Aronofsky’s earlier ballet thriller Black Swan in this one.
Aronofsky is a filmmaker who loves the auteurs. Black Swan is clearly influenced by the works of Roman Polanski and it looks like this has extended to mother! as well. mother! also looks like a cross between Polanski’s horror classic Rosemary’s Baby and Michael Haneke’s Funny Games, both outstanding thrillers in their own right. Here’s hoping that Aronofsky has made something that will help him join the ranks of these masters!
There are more clues to the story hidden in the creepy but beautifully painted posters for mother! Hint: Look closer at the grass and flower petals in the first poster featuring Lawrence and hone in on the flames and the orb being held by Bardem in the second poster. Cryptic, eh?
mother! will be out in Singapore cinemas on September 14. Who here is a fan of Aronofsky’s body of work and can’t wait to see this?
