We’ve seen the aliens from Independence Day: Resurgence destroy our favourite landmarks (spoiler, Singapore wasn’t spared). We’ve seen the spiffy new toys humanity developed after the first invasion.
.
Now, the latest Independence Day: Resurgence trailer shows just how far the human race will go in defence of the Earth, with Bill Pullman’s former president Thomas Whitmore offering himself as a telepathic communication device to the aliens (by letting them tentacle choke him).
Of course, the trailer also showed us it was possible to survive such an encounter, as Dr Brackish Okun (Brent Spiner) did in Area 51 in the first movie.
Whether or not the ex-president manages to, however, remains to be seen. But we totally need to see him outdo Idris Elba’s apocalypse-cancelling speech from Pacific Rim with another, rousing challenge to not go “quietly into the night”. Either that or to “nuke the bastards”. I’m not picky.
.
Oh, and we get to see Singapore destroyed in more detail from the 2:19 mark onwards, wrong taxis notwithstanding.
.
The Independence Day: Resurgence Singapore release date has been set for June 23.
