Christopher Nolan’s first World War II epic Dunkirk is one of the most anticipated films this year and it gets a gripping second trailer to match! Take it all in below:

“When 400,000 men couldn’t get home, home came for them.” Dunkirk is based on the historic miracle known as the Dunkirk evacuation, code-named Operation Dynamo.

Four hundred thousand Allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain, Canada and France were surrounded by German troops on the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk during the Battle of France. And most were successfully evacuated in a matter of days by a hastily assembled fleet of 800 boats that included not only military vessels and large ships but smaller merchant and fishing boats, pleasure crafts and lifeboats.

The new trailer focuses on the civilian boatmen, such as Mark Rylance’s character, who valiantly sailed into the heart of war to help evacuate the trapped soldeirs. It also highlights the Royal Air Force pilots who patrolled the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk to defend the evacuation, one of whom is played by Tom Hardy.

Dunkirk also stars Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, James D’Arcy and Harry Styles.

I really can’t wait to see what a war film that’s directed by Nolan will be like. The little snippets of the chaos and the aerial dog fights that we get to see so far effectively convey that the stakes are high and time is running out! Now, excuse me while I go have an aneurysm from the stress until the film is released here on July 20.
