We last saw T’challa a.k.a. Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) in Captain America: Civil War, seeking revenge for the untimely death of his father and ultimately extending mercy to the killer. Now, we get our first Black Panther teaser, which dropped just a little while ago during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Saturday (10 June) morning.
It all kicks off with Ulyssess Klaue (Andy Serkis), last seen in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, being interrogated by government man Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman). “Tell me something: what do you know about Wakanda?” Which is the cue for our entrance into the wondrous, technologically advanced, near-mythic African kingdom now ruled by T’challa.
There are brief glimpses of Lupita Nyong’o‘s Nakia and the villain of the piece: Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger. There’s also a robbery, a rescue attempt on Klaue and what appears to be some kind of tribal challenge. At the centre of it all is our man T’challa, looking all angsty and such.
“You are a good man with a good heart. And it is hard for a good man to be king,” intones the solemn voiceover. Which you just know means trouble.
Black Panther opens in cinemas February 16, 2018.
