Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss rather do have a habit of casting famous musicians in cameos, with the most prominent being Sigur Rós and Will Champion from Coldplay. This time round, they’ve landed an even bigger name for Game of Thrones season 7: Ed Sheeran!
The announcement was made during a GOT panel at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas on Sunday. “For years we were trying to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie (Williams) and this year we finally did it,” said Benioff.
We don’t yet know just who Sheeran will play, but the 26-year-old is known to be a big fan of the show. Given his musical career, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Sheeran lay claim to the Iron Throne. Playing a musician – as Sigur Rós did – would be too predictable too. Perhaps a knight who suffers a sudden and gruesome death, then?
