Yes, you read that right. After waiting two years for season 7 to get here, season 8 may involve a similar wait.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said that another delay may be necessary for showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss to cleanly wrap up the series.
“By the time the final season airs, Dan and David will have been at this for 12 years… They have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule. We’ll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing.”
After the kind of heartache Benioff and Weiss have put us through, I suppose they’ve earned the right to take as long as they like to finish telling their story. Still, at least we’ll have the Game of Thrones spinoffs to look forward to.
Game of Thrones S7 premieres exclusively on HBO (StarHub TV Ch 601) on July 17 at 9am, with a same day primetime encore at 9pm.
