There’s been a fair amount of news about Game of Thrones coming out of South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. Hot on the heels of the premiere date for season 7, we’ve also found out that Ed Sheeran will be the latest high profile musician making a cameo on the show.

Now, showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have officially confirmed that Game of Thrones’ final season have only six episodes, four shorter than the usual 10 episodes. As it stands, season 7 will only run for seven episodes. Production on season 7 – which will also star Jim Broadbent – took longer than usual, which is why its premiere has been delayed.

In any case, it’s been an amazing odyssey since the HBO fantasy series first debuted in 2011, with lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth by fans. We can only take a step back, wish the showrunners the very best and let them do their thing.

Game of Thrones season 7 will premiere on July 16.
