No, that headline’s not a joke. Following in the footsteps of last year’s Train To Busan (see our review) comes a new Korean zombie series set in the Joseon dynasty (1392-1897), set for release by Netflix in 2018.
Directed by Kim Seong-hun, the eight-part series Kingdom is centred on a young crown prince sent to investigate a bizarre medical outbreak. And of course, the outbreak turns out to a zombie apocalypse, which means the prince and his men have to make a desperate stand against the undead.
Considering that Warner Bros made its first Korean language production last year in Age of Shadows (see our review) and that Netflix is also releasing Bong Joon-ho’s Okja later this year, western studios seem very eager to tap on the Korean market. So long as the output is good, we sure aren’t complaining.
