Reporting from San Diego Comic Convention in San Diego, California

I am tired. Like, really tired. The kind of tired you get when you’ve been camping out for 32 hours straight (not kidding) so you can get into the highlight of every San Diego Comic Con: Hall H Saturday, where the industry unveils its newest projects and exclusive footage.

One of the best things about this year’s Hall H Saturday (July 23) was the Stranger Things 2 panel, which included the very charming David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) and Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas). Strangely, Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers) was conspicuously missing…

Everything is a blur now, but the best moment was undoubtedly Shannon Purser, who played the unfortunate Barb, popping up in the audience to ask a question: will Barb return? To which the cast answered: there will be justice for Barb!

And then we got the Stranger Things 2 trailer, which has a wonderful “Thriller” homage complete with Vincent Price voiceover, not to mention Ghostbusters references galore. It’s clear that the Upside Down isn’t done with Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) just yet. And if you need more 80s homages, say hello to Bob Newby (Sean Astin – The Goonies!), Joyce’s new paramour.

There are also four new characters: the aforementioned Newby, Owens (Paul Reiser), an “authority figure” who comes in to “clean up the mess”, new girl in town Max (Sadie Sink) and the charismatic Billy (Montgomery Dacre).

Plus: the return of Eleven! Here’s the Stranger Things 2 synopsis.

It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.
